Australian improvising pianist, composer, keyboard player, Alister Spence returns to Europe to promote his recent album Within Without (Room40) for solo fender rhodes, and his solo piano
album Always Ever. Described as a ‘master improviser’ Spence has been regarded as a leading figure in contemporary improv music in Australia, and further afield, for more than three decades. He has an impressive track record, having worked with numerous internationally renowned musicians and artists, including Satoko Fujii, Ed Kuepper (The Saints), Lloyd Swanton & Tony Buck (The Necks), Myra Melford, Natsuki Tamura and Jim O’Rourke. International press praises his music for its depth, imagination and uncompromising approach.

Spence’s 2026 Europe tour includes Worm (Rotterdam: solo fender rhodes, and with Camae Ayewa/Moor Mother), Zaal100 (Amsterdam: solo piano), AB Brussels (Brussels: solo fender rhodes), and La Malterie (Lille: piano/drums duo with Tony Buck. In 2025 Spence played a piano/drums concert at Morphine Raum with Tony Buck. (The concert was recorded and will be released soon as a new duo album following their 2023 release Mythographer.)
On Saturday 26th September he returns to Morphine Raum, first on solo fender rhodes, then in a trio with piano and drums sound-makers Khaled Kurbeh and Samuel Hall.
